Brimstone Quadracycle is a DeathwishMobile with a Bullet

Ostensibly a mash-up between a four-wheeled quad, a motorcycle and a drag car, what we have here is the closest thing you can get to a V8 engine strapped to a Power Wheels. Seriously, this is like a real-life childhood fantasy wrought in metal... almost brings a tear to the eye, doesn't it? It's absolutely insane. And yes, off course we'd gladly take it for a spin.

Brimstone is reportedly willing to build you one with as much as 750 horsepower from a 455 cubic inch aluminum Dart V8. Performance figures? How 'bout zero to sixty in 2.8 seconds? Or, better yet, zero to 120 in six seconds flat. It's even fuel efficient, returning up to 30 mpg, and it can be equipped with a hitch to tow a small boat. They're taking orders now, but you'll have to claim a spot behind us.

Power-to-weight ratio – that metric might be the most meaningful performance measurement to consider when judging exactly what piece of machinery you should or shouldn't strap yourself into/onto. If you're the type that wants to leave this world with a giant smile on your face and bugs in your teeth, allow us to introduce you to the Brimstone Quadracycle.

Nissan Land Glider could come to the States as an Infiniti

Concept cars tend to push the boundaries of what is and isn't possible with a four-wheeled vehicle. Such is the case with the Nissan Land Glider -- a 47-inch cross between a motorcycle and a car, with an enclosed cabin, a glass canopy and passenger compartment that leans into turns for added stability -- going on display this week at the Tokyo Motor Show. Usually, such far-out-there concepts make the auto show circuit before being abandoned somewhere in the corner of a dark, dingy warehouse, but perhaps not this one.

According to Automotive News, there are some inside the Japanese automaker that suggest the fully electric car could slot into the company's upmarket Infiniti lineup, possibly even making it to the United States. If that happens, the Land Glider may be a single-seater, as the concept's single rear passenger perch may not make it through safety testing.

The Land Glider concept that will make its world premiere at this week's Tokyo Motor Show can seat two passengers in tandem that are enclosed in a glass dome ceiling with power being provided by two electric motors at the rear. It's most unique feature is its tilting body that can lean up to 17 degrees for better cornering. Click here to watch the Land Glider in action.

BMW C1-E concept

BMW Motorrad study for urban traffic. BMW C1-E: concept for a higher level of
    safety in the city.

Munich. This is what a safe, environment-friendly and highly practical single
track vehicle for city traffic could look like in the future. BMW Motorrad
developed the C1-E study as a contribution to the European safety project eSUM.
This study unit is based on the concept of the BMW C1. It is characterized by a
very high level of active and passive safety and is driven by an electric motor.

The BMW C1-E provides exemplary protection for its rider. This is ensured by the
safety cell with the conspicuous roll-over bar which dynamically spans the rider
seat in combination with the energy-absorbing impact element at the nose end. A
further special point is that the C1-E rider wears a seat-belt. In the study
this safety feature is highlighted by red belts and belt buckles.

Visually the concept vehicle expresses brand typical sheer driving pleasure and
clearly distinguishes itself from typical scooter looks. Its lines are
dynamically stretched and flow horizontally with a low visual centre of gravity.
The fairing with its windscreen, the luggage space behind the rider and the side
stand for effortless parking ensure high suitability for everyday riding
combined with a high degree of wind and weather protection.

The electric motor employed in the study has been designed for city use and is
based on components by the company Vectrix. The motor obtains its power from a
lithium-ion battery and thus possesses sufficient power for mastering most
inner-city traffic riding with ease. Alternatively the vehicle could also be
equipped with an efficient, low-emissions internal combustion engine.

The safety features of the C1-E have been taken from the former BMW C1 and
further enhanced. BMW's avant-garde two-wheeler is regarded as a milestone in
safety on two wheels. It is the only motorised single-track vehicle to be exempt
from mandatory helmet wearing in almost all European countries.

This BMW Motorrad study is to remain the only model of its kind. Series
production is currently not planned. Nevertheless, findings from the project
will find their way into other future developments in the field of single-track
    vehicles.

eSUM stands for European Safer Urban Motorcycling. It is a cooperation project
between major urban European motorcycling centres and motorcycle manufacturers.
The cities currently involved in the project include Paris, Rome, Barcelona and
London and the manufacturers are BMW and Piaggio.

The advantage of two-wheeled transportation is that it offers a great
opportunity for improving the flow of traffic in urban locations. Moreover, it
is environmentally friendly and lends itself to individualisation. However, the
vast majority of accidents occur in urban traffic, in areas where 80 percent of
the population live. The idea behind eSum is to look into ways of countering
this trend. The joint goal is the identification, development, and practical
demonstration of measures which are able to guarantee safe motorcycle and
motor-scooter transport in the inner-city traffic of the future.

One of BMW Motorrad's major concerns over the last twenty years has been the
improvement of motorcycle safety. This was amply demonstrated by the consistent
strategy which has led to the Motorrad ABS and continued with its long-term
ongoing development. Only a few weeks ago, on August 31, the 1,000,000th BMW
motorcycle with Integral ABS, a BMW K 1300 R, left the production line in
    Berlin-Spandau.

Since 2005, a series of further active safety features have been developed to
enhance the safety BMW motorcycles still further: RDC Tyre Pressure Control, ASC
Anti-Slip Control, the new Race ABS and the DTC Traction Control incorporated in
the new BMW S 1000 RR, not to mention the innovative range of BMW Motorrad rider
    equipment.

Over and above this, BMW Motorrad is also conducting research into
forward-looking rider assistance systems designed to increased road safety, as
part of the ConnectedRide project. Features being looked at include
cross-traffic and traffic-light assistance as well as a warning system for
impending poor weather, road obstacles, an approaching emergency vehicle, or
    sudden braking manoeuvres.

2009 Batpod makes a field trip

The San-Diego Comic Con is now in full swing, and amidst all the panels and personal appearances, there's no shortage of static displays to check out either. Our man Drew Phillips strolled through the halls to see what's what and sent back some photos of the wheeled attractions dotting the floor.

First up? The Batpod, natch. As you can see, The Dark Knight's ride is roped off to keep it protected from the rabble, but at the show's conclusion, we think its minder should put those cannons to good use by blasting a hole through the San Diego Convention Center's wall and riding out in style. And he ought to wear these, too.

Video: Marotti concept reverse three-wheeler from Poland

When viewed from the front at a standstill the car/cycle looks cool and futuristic. But seen from the side, and in motion, it looks like an odd combination of a stubby-nosed sports car mated with a segway.

    Morotti concept reverse three-wheeler

To call the Marotti three-wheeled concept car "unusual looking" is a massive understatement. A new video of the airplane-inspired machine has just been released, and show's the car from sketch, to production, to test driving.

    Morotti concept reverse three-wheeler

In profile, it does not actually look like a fighter jet, as implied, but rather like an early space shuttle mockup. Although it accomplishes cool things, the space shuttle is commonly referred to as a "flying brick" because it is both heavy and lacking in supreme aerodynamics.

    Morotti concept reverse three-wheeler

The prototype is fitted with a double rocker arm at the front, roller rocker arm at the back, and an adjustable shock system. Disk brakes are used, but we wouldn't mind seeing heavy duty calipers and disks on the machine.

    Morotti concept reverse three-wheeler

Anyway, the vehicle does have a killer amount of power, considering its light 440 kg weight. It uses a 750 cc Honda V4 engine that produces 100 horsepower, and is controlled with a sequential six-speed gearbox.

    Morotti concept reverse three-wheeler

The Marotti concept was shown off earlier this year in Poland at the Poznan Automotive Meetings Design Forum.

    Morotti concept reverse three-wheeler

Unfortunately, Marotti will continue to push the car's appearance. That may not be such a good idea, as the car/cycle is clearly designed to appeal to the few, not the many.

Sidecar Motorcycling: Laverada Supercar

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Here's someone who has made from a Laverda motorcycle a sidecar. Not just any sidecar, but a supercar sidecar, including gulfwing doors. The sidecar part looks amazing, a true work of art. It's almost like it came straight out of the factory.work of art. It's almost like it came straight out of the factory.

Take François Knorreck of Italy. After some 10,000 hours of work over a ten-year period and at a cost of 15,000 euros, Knorreck created a unique sidecar motorcycle called the Snaefell – likely named after the tallest peak on the famed Isle of Man. Half the machine is based on the guts of a Laverda motorcycle, while the other half uses bits from a Volkswagen GTI, Audi 80 and a Citroen Xantia.

Equally as interesting is this mashup that combines what appears to be an older British motorcycle with a cut-down Citroen 2CV sidecar. It seems both machines are in fully working order with the older 2CV still sporting what we assume is an inoperative a steering wheel.

Parts were used from other vehicles, like a Kawasaki 1000, VW Golf GTI, Audi 80 and a Citroen Xantia car. Further gear was found on BMW and Renault cars.

FOTA looks to MotoGP for 2010 breakaway

Casey Stoner in action in Mugello

Carmelo Ezpeleta could be the figure FOTA turns to if the major teams decide to quit Formula One at the end of the year, according to the Spanish sports newspaper Diario AS.

Ezpeleta is the CEO of Madrid-based Dorna Sports, the commercial rights holder of F1's two-wheeled equivalent MotoGP.

Dorna was bought by CVC, F1's current owner, in 1998 but is now controlled by its management.

It has been credited with transferring the rule-making power of the Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) to the GP Manufacturers Association (MSMA).

The newspaper said the Formula One Teams Association has already had contact with Ezpeleta, who would be reportedly willing to take command of a breakaway series should the eight FOTA members decide to create their own.

A few F1 drivers, including double champion Fernando Alonso and current titleholder Lewis Hamilton, have indicated their readiness to follow their teams into a new series.

Honda Working On Electric Motorcycle For 2010

Mission One EV sport bike unveiled - 150 MPH, 150-mile range

Mission Motors has just revealed its all-electric sport bike and the family-friendly version of our initial reaction goes something like, "Holy Mother of God and all that is good and decent!", followed immediately by the sound of our jaws hitting the floor. After a couple of years of staying almost perfectly in stealth mode, the Mission One is being unveiled today at the TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) conference.

The Yves Béhar-designed bike sets a new performance standard for electric two-wheelers with a top speed of 150 mph and an estimated range of 150 miles. Of course, the strength of an electric drivetrain is torque and the Mission One has 100 lb-ft of the stuff on offer from the first twist of the throttle up until 60 mph. When it makes its race debut at the TTXGP on June 12th, we suspect the other entries will be scrappin' it out for second place.

To bring this amazing machine to market, Forrest North and his two co-founders, Edward West and Mason Cabot, have assembled a real dream team with incredible depth and experience and whose resumés list companies like Tesla Motors, Ducati and Google. The first 50 bikes produced will be a special Limited Edition model delivered in 2010 bearing a $68,995 price tag, while a standard, more affordable Mission One model will be announced this summer. If the goal of this company was to create a paradigm-busting object of desire, then we say, "Mission accomplished". Mouth watering specs below and official press release after the break.

KTM concepts could point the way forward for Austrian brand

KTM, the Austrian purveyor of both two- and four-wheeled motoring lust, has made it clear that it's a force to be reckoned with as it branches out into other enthusiast markets with such ridiculously awesome products as the X-Bow roadster and its RC8 superbike.

Two things that remain a constant feature through all of the firm's recent products are the orange, black and white color pallette and its angular design language. These features, along with KTM's race-ready heritage, makes conceptual vehicle design for the company extremely interesting and proof comes in the form of six concepts designed by industrial design students at FH JOANNEUM University.

This is an instance where pictures speak louder than words, but we've copied the designer's stated vision for each machine with captions in our gallery below. Each of these concepts was designed in conjunction with KTM, so they may offer an early glimpse into what's coming from the company. In a word: awesome. We'll take one of each. Thanks for the tip, Marc!

    * KTM sr 85 Deuce - An environmentally-friendly lightweight vehicle
    * KTM CX - A racing vehicle that brings motocross to the water
    * KTM 360° - A super-light, silent electric bike

Car News: Ferrari motorcycle fails to sell

Monday, December 8, 2008

1995 Ferrari motorcycle to be auctioned

It all started when David Kay wrote to Enzo Ferrari’s son Piero, requesting to build a one-off motorcycle sporting the famous prancing horse badge in tribute to his late Ferrari doesn't make motorcycles. At least, not officially... but that fact hasn't stopped a number of custom cycle makers from taking matters into their own hands. Perhaps the most famous Maranello-inspired two-wheeler was made by Arlen Ness, but that one's not all that practical in conception.

We would imagine a Ferrari motorcycle to be a truly sporting machine, equally as comfortable on the race track as the street, or, more realistically, being shown off in one's garage. Ferrari seems to agree, as the only cycle ever created that bears an official Ferrari chassis number -- SF-01M -- has true sporting pretensions.
