Paris 2010: Citroën Lacoste Concept is a fashion buggy for the white belt set

    Citroën Lacoste Concept

This is the Citroën Lacoste concept, which the automaker describes as "an emblem for a state-of-mind" – that particular mental state probably including sun, sand, bikinis and Speedos. The open buggy-like four-seater with floating headrests is the opposite of "always more," powered by a three-cylinder engine that will make its pace as relaxed as its occupants.

Fashion and four-wheelers combine all around, with the golf-ball wheels outside and bench seats with a polo-shirt-like weave inside. The dash that's as wide as the car goes in another direction entirely, with readouts in giant pixels popping up and running along its length akin to a Times Square news ticker. And although we probably won't see it on the roads beaches soon, there is a chance we could see it or something like it: Frédéric Banzet, managing director of Citroën, has said he'd like to bring it to production.Source URL: https://automotivetrendnews.blogspot.com/search/label/Citroen

Paris 2010: 2011 Citroën DS4 continues the automaker's design revolution

    2011 Citroën DS4

Citroën continues to expand its DS lineup of cars. The first model-launched with the DS styling was the DS3, and here at the Paris Motor Show we have just gotten our first look at the all-new Citroën DS4.

The five-door hatchback shows off the new direction of Citroën styling and pushes the automaker into a new era. The DS4 will be available with a slew of engine choices that can be paired up with either a six-speed automatic or manual transmission. For diesel fans, there are 110- and 160-horsepower units, however the ever-important torque figures are not yet available. Petrolheads can choose from either 120-, 155- or 200-hp gasoline-drinking variants. Word on the virtual street is that a sportier DS4 Racing model is also in the works.

We love seeing automakers push for new design styles that help refine the brand. It's even better when they create a car that looks damn good in the process.Source URL: https://automotivetrendnews.blogspot.com/search/label/Citroen

    [Citroen+DS3+Yves+Saint+Laurent+01.jpg]

The special-edition DS3 was created for a retrospective event honoring the fashion label and its departed founder, and was used to shuttle celebrities and VIPs around Paris.

Similar to the standard model of the DS, this special edition Citroen hatchback comes with a new red exterior color that’s combined with the black roof with that unmistakable Yves Saint Laurent logo.

The DS3 is a special vehicle for Citroen, as it marks the introduction of the DS range to the market. The new line-up will be formed by luxury incarnations of some of the carmaker’s existing models. The DS3, based on the C3, has already been launched and it will be followed by the DS4 and DS5.

    Press Release

CITROËN DS3 DRESSED IN YVES SAINT LAURENT

An essential fashion accessory, the Citroën DS3 slipped into its finest outfit to welcome guests to the opening of the Yves Saint Laurent retrospective.

By linking the first model in the DS line to the designer who revolutionised the way women dress, Citroën is reasserting its Créative Technologie universe. A high-fashion version of the DS3, decked out in the colours of the Yves Saint Laurent retrospective, transported fashion and film stars to the show at the Petit Palais in Paris on Wednesday 10 March.

Organised by the Pierre Bergé-Yves Saint Laurent Foundation, the exhibition includes more than 300 pieces. Presented in their historical and cultural context, they create a panoramic vision of the illustrious fashion designer's body of work, from his Dior debut in 1958 to retirement in 2002. The public also gets its first look at the entire series of legendary photographs of Yves Saint Laurent taken by Jean-Loup Sieff in 1971.

The Citroën DS3, a sensual and muscular compact hatch, is thus taking its first steps in the fashion world, blending its unique atmosphere of luxury and distinction with the elegance and anti-conformist aesthetic of Yves Saint Laurent.

GQBYCITROËN – DESIGNED BY CITROËN. TAILORED BY SAVILE ROW. MADE WITH GQ.

Citroën and GQ have revealed a unique and exciting automotive project – the GQbyCITROËN.

The GQbyCITROËN is a concept car born through a unique partnership between the UK's market-leading quality men's monthly and a team of Citroën designers, collaborating to create the ultimate gentleman's drive. This is the first time a British magazine has collaborated with a car company in this way.

Responding to a brief by GQ's editor, Dylan Jones, Citroën's team, headed by British designer – and the man responsible for the new Citroën DS3 – Mark Lloyd, took a new look at the GT theme and integrated it with a typical Citroën design approach bringing GQbyCITROËN from design outline to concept reality.

GQbyCITROËN combines classically sophisticated features and contemporary styling with a sculpted front end, rounded rear, strong body contours and sleek concave rear windscreen – a signature Citroën design.

The car's cabin is accessed by rear coach doors and reveals a spacious, comfortable and futuristic cabin. Completing the car's bespoke styling, the interior detailing and upholstery selections were provided by Patrick Grant, the Creative Director of prestigious Savile Row tailors, E.Tautz, who commented: "Savile Row is all about balance and Tautz's simple military inspired interior is the perfect counterpoint to the Gallic flair of the exterior."

Dylan Jones commented: "I wanted something practical, something cool, and something idiosyncratic – i.e. something surprising that didn't just look like a concept car. The GQ car needed to have the 'want' factor, but it also needed to look, feel and 'drive' like the sort of car no sane man could choose to ignore. We think it looks very very special."

Dynamic performance and environmental responsibility were also key requirements for the project. The GQbyCITROËN concept car is powered by a plug-in Hybrid with a 1,598cc, 4-cylinder direct injection petrol engine offering a sporty 0-60mph time of just 4.5seconds, an electronically limited top speed of 155mph and CO2 emissions of just 80g/km.

Mark Lloyd, Chief Designer of Citroën's International Projects added: "Where this car works so well with GQ is that it fits with the current attitudes of conspicuous consumption. It is understated rather than in-your-face and sleek rather than too macho. With the skills of a Savile Row tailor on the car's interior we have also achieved that bespoke, fitted feel, both inside and out.

"For me, the car that has always represented the pinnacle of automotive excellence and refinement is the GT – the Grand Tourer. It is not the all-out sports car, rather it is something gentlemanly, it has performance and it is for travelling, not racing. We wanted to create something that, like GQ, was aspirational, but also retained the classic automotive ideals. We didn't want a car for the mass market. We wanted a car for GQ.'"

The GQbyCITROËN is featured in the April issue of GQ out March 4th 2010. For more information visit: www.gqbycitroen.co.uk.

Geneva Motor Show: Citroen Survolt bridges the divide

    SURVOLT: GLAMOROUS, FREE-SPIRITED AND HIGHLY-CHARGED!

Survolt is the continuation of CITROËN'S exploration of distinctive and original electric vehicles, initiated with the Revolte concept car revealed at last year's Frankfurt Motor Show. Survolt turns received notions on their heads through its radically new vision in a consummate blend of high-fashion glamour and extravagance with motor-racing punch.

The desire to overcome one's limits, take things further, dare and create is written in CITROËN'S DNA. Breaking with convention, shaking up the rules, shifting borders and surprising continuously is the passionate quest and leitmotiv of a brand that over its 90-year history has never ceased to develop innovative objects ahead of their time. Survolt is one of these. It takes the genetic material of Revolte and adds an extroverted sports dimension to the mix.

Like a luxury accessory that transcends an outfit, Survolt is CITROËN'S answer to an automotive universe that all too often seems morose. Survolt casts aside protocol and transgresses existing codes to initiate a new kind of stylish, sporty and elegant supermini. Bucking current trends and pointing to the future of sleek coupés, it unites elegance, glamour and sporting passion, sublimating this last quality with its electric drivetrain.

    Innovative and sensual

With its compact dimensions – 3.85 m long, 1.87 m wide and 1.20 m high – Survolt reappropriates sports car styling cues to form an all-new and revolutionary concept.

At the front, the distinctive vehicle badge reigns elegantly above the large oval-shaped grille, its centre home to the striking double chevron. The car's "look" – charming and profound at the same time – attracts and holds the viewer's gaze with a promise of transgressions suddenly made possible. Its slim, horizontal head lamps, inspired by high-performance sports coupés, exert a magnetic appeal, while an LED light signature adds a contemporary, high-tech touch.

Survolt was made to gobble up the miles and glide over roads. Low-slung and sleek, it features strong contrasts between the voluptuous bonnet and generous, sculpted flanks, highlighted by emphatic wheel arches that promise performance and thrills.

Survolt's air-slicing, flowing design is heavy on excitement and sensuality. It conveys agility, precision and vitality, barely containing a powerful, well-defined musculature under refined and luxurious wraps. The rear features the elegant light signature of Revolte together with a spoiler in an essential reference to motor sport.

Survolt is innovative and powerful but also knows how to turn on the charm, revealing its finest assets to catwalk in motor sports arenas. It features two-tone paint, hues of fuchsia and charcoal grey, and plays with materials and volumes. The curves shift from satin-smooth to shiny, breaking definitively with the classic masculine codes of the sports world. Survolt continues the work begun with Revolte by once again blending two universes with contrasting appearances. Survolt eschews decorum to create its own styling language.

The inclusion of materials such as chrome and aluminium inevitably recall the spheres of luxury goods and motor sport. Survolt is a perfect combination between high fashion and car racing, a unique alliance with the same philosophy and the same cues as Revolte, namely performance, cutting-edge technology and excellence.

    Elegantly sporty

Survolt's cockpit is designed like a floating cell, a glass setting held between chrome-finished roll bars like some magnificent piece of jewellery. The leitmotiv with Survolt is to transgress the conventions of the luxury world and combine them elegantly with those of the sporting world.

The cabin was imagined as a cross between two worlds that by their essence are opposed. This union begets an organic universe, both flowing and technical, from which the driver's station springs forth. The interior as a whole was designed to bring the two occupants comfort and refinement, triggering singular pleasure and an outstanding experience.

The car's generous glazed area brings light and a sensation of space, light years from that offered by today's sports cars.

    Transcendent power and excitement

Ahead of its time, Survolt captivates with its innovative, environment-friendly technology. Like Revolte, Survolt is powered by electricity, thus combining sports performance with environmental respect and sustainable development. Still particularly rare in the racing world, this technological solution also embodies a previously unthinkable alliance. But CITROËN dares and creates, transgressing conventions to better sublimate them. With irreproachable ecological credentials, the drivetrain blends driving pleasure, thrills, performance and vitality, and all in extreme comfort, since the car is silent in operation.

CITROËN is proposing a new automotive vision with Survolt, in a move that is entirely consistent with its 90-year history as an innovative brand focused on creativity and technology.

CITROËN DS3 RACING: A STYLISH SPORTS MODEL

There exists not one but thousands of DS3s. And now, Citroën Racing, the Marque's competition department, has created its take of the new model and transformed it into its own image. With five World Rally Championship Constructors' titles for CITROËN and six Drivers' titles for Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena, there can be no doubts about the expertise of Citroën Racing.

Presented at Geneva in special livery, the DS3 Racing stands apart with its special positioning focused on sports performance and driving pleasure. An outstanding concentrate of behind-the-wheel thrills featuring an artful blend of performance and efficiency, the newcomer will take up its place in the DS3 range with an appealing combination of verve and vitality.

The DS3 Racing embodies CITROËN'S "Créative Technologie" with elegance, originality and sportiness. It is fitted with the 1.6-litre THP engine developing 200 bhp, specially tuned to bring drivers intense thrills and unrivalled on-road performance.
The DS3 Racing will be launched in a limited series of 1,000 units in second-half 2010.

    Emotional design

The styling of the DS3 Racing inspires boldness, desire, vigour and ambition. The DS3 Racing is a pure expression of sportiness. At 3.94 m long, its eminently attractive, taut yet flowing lines evoke strength, energy, driving pleasure and safety.

The DS3 Racing features the same styling cues as the DS3 but adds full-blooded racing attributes suggesting a vigorous purebred character.

It boasts carbon finish on the semi-rigid front bumper, lower body trim and wing extensions, which emphasise the large 18-inch wheels with their original, high-tech racer design. The side mouldings on the doors are also finished in carbon.

The DS3 Racing benefits from aerodynamic research from the motor racing sector. It sports a carbon-trimmed spoiler to maintain stability at high speeds and a chrome-finished exhaust pipe that elegantly punctuates the car's attractive lines.

All of this rally-based equipment strengthens the definitively sporty and athletic character of the DS Racing, which signals its exclusive character with a special signature on the tailgate.

The exclusive nature of the DS3 Racing is also illustrated by the original livery of the car on show at Geneva. The body is painted dark grey, while the roof, exterior rearview mirrors and brake callipers are in orange and the grille and wheels in chrome orange. The car's singular nature is also expressed with decals on the roof, boot lid and fuel flap.

    Sophisticated, individual atmosphere

The DS3-based interior gets the same special treatment as the exterior. Passengers are bathed in a refined and original top-end atmosphere. Carbon detailing is elegantly applied on the central console of the dashboard, the steering wheel embellisher, the door armrests and the hood of the instrument cluster.

The orange colour of the roof is echoed on the broad and elegant dashboard inserts, the gearstick handle and the lower party of the gearstick embellisher.

The exclusive personality of the DS3 Racing is once again clearly evidenced in the numbered plate on the roof lining, while the Citroën Racing signature adorns the backs of the specially designed seats.

    Engineered for more power

The DS3 racing is all about performance. Developed by Citroën Racing, its engine benefits from all the expertise of the teams of the Marque, five-time WRC champion in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008 and 2009.

Citroën engineers took the 1.6 THP 150 unit and boosted power from 156 bhp to 200 bhp for top-flight results. Torque has also been increased, by nearly 15% from 240 Nm to 275 Nm, and remains available over a wide operating range ensuring flexibility and driving pleasure.

The engineers achieved this by modifying and optimising powertrain components. The turbo was tuned to achieve a 30% increase in power, while the mapping of the engine control unit was tweaked to extract the quintessence of this punchy, muscular powerplant. Lastly, the exhaust gets a special tail pipe and muffler.

Running gear focused on driving pleasure

The chassis and running gear of the DS3 have been expertly modified by the engineers for the DS3 Racing to transcend the work already accomplished for the regular model. The objective was to focus on intense driving thrills and a permanent dialogue between driver and road. The DS3 Racing has what it takes to become a standard-setter in the segment on road behaviour.

To literally hug the road, front and rear track have been widened by 30 mm and vehicle attitude lowered by 15 mm. These changes bring the DS3 Racing radically different on-road performance.

The front and rear shock absorbers on the DS3 Racing have been adapted in line with the extra power and the car has been fitted with stiffer springs. These changes further improve the traction and stability of a car that is already gifted in this area, guaranteeing an excellent "reading" of the road and faster cornering in complete peace of mind.

The steering has been made even more precise, adapted to the sporting character of the car. The DS3 Racing features specific steering mapping and the control system has been modified and adapted to the new tyres. The DS3 Racing brings drivers excellent feel and a precise course.

The car's extra power is perfectly controllable thanks to a braking system with Racing specifications, for more endurance and sharper performance. At the front, the DS3 Racing gets four-piston callipers and special discs. At the rear, again for more efficiency, performance and safety, the regular production discs have been drilled. The ESP system has been programmed for extra vitality, sportiness and driving pleasure. Drivers can disconnect the system whenever they like.

The changes made to the DS3 Racing give it a temperament that ensures driving thrills, vitality and gusto.

    Finalised in a special workshop

The CITROËN DS3 Racing will be finalised in a special workshop. Based on the THP 150 Sport Chic version of the DS3, it will be equipped with a parts kit developed according to Citroën Racing specifications.

CITROËN UNLEASHES 200HP LIMITED EDITION DS3 RACING AT GENEVA

Citroën is unleashing a hot new DS3 at the Geneva Motor Show - the limited edition 200hp DS3 Racing.

Developed by Citroën Racing - the winning team behind five WRC manufacturer's titles and six driver's titles for Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena - DS3 Racing is a special edition with a 100% sporting pedigree. Planned for the second half of 2010, the exclusive DS3 Racing will be limited to just 1000 production units.

With integrated carbon-trimmed components and specialist motorsports equipment, DS3 Racing's tuned and turbo-charged 1.6-litre THP 150 engine develops 200hp - a power increase of almost 30% over the standard unit - with a torque increase of 15% from 240Nm to 275Nm.

To achieve the additional power output, from 156hp to 200hp, Citroën Racing's engineers modified and optimised the powertrain components, tuned the performance of the turbo and adjusted the mapping of the engine control unit. A special tail pipe and muffler were also added.

Allowing DS3 Racing to stick to the road, the car has undergone some significant sporting enhancements. The steering has been made even more precise, with the control system modified for the new tyres. The fitment of stiffer suspension springs, adapted front and rear shock absorbers (to handle the increased power), and the widening of the front and rear tracks by 30mm - plus lowering the car by 15mm - all dramatically change the driving dynamics.

These important developments reinforce both the stability and dynamic control of the car, and enhance the feedback between the road and the driver.

The braking system has also been up-rated to ensure control over the car's additional horsepower. The front wheels get 4-piston racing callipers and special disc-brakes - with drilled discs at the rear. For enhanced control, the ESP has been adapted to complement the sportier handling, but can be disengaged according to the driver's preference.

In addition to the distinctive, radical styling of DS3, the new Racing edition inherits Citroën Racing's expertise in motorsport design to provide advanced technological and stylistic sporting prowess.

The preview model, to be presented at Geneva, is in a special livery and features sporty ‘DS3', ‘Citroën Racing' and chequered flag graphics on the roof, in front of the rear wheel arches, under the side mirrors and next to the fuel cap.

Measuring 3.94m long, DS3 Racing's dark grey body is tastefully contrasted with a vibrant, bright orange-coloured roof, side mirrors and brake callipers. The alloy wheels and front grille surround - with integrated chevrons - are finished in orange chrome.

A sporty carbon finish is used around the front bumper, lower body trim and wing extensions, whilst large 18" alloy wheels, chrome door handles and even a chrome-finished exhaust complete the dynamic styling.

Inside the cabin, smart carbon trim adorns the dashboard, centre console, steering wheel embellisher, armrests and door side mouldings. The vibrant orange bodywork and decals continue into the cabin with the glossy strip of the dash, gear stick and gear stick surround finished in the same bright tone. The sporty, figure-hugging seats are also touched with orange elements and are embossed with ‘Citroën Racing'.

A DS3 Racing signature on the rear tailgate and an individually numbered identification plate fixed to the roof-lining further confirm the model's exclusivity.

On the road, DS3 Racing's WRC pedigree is evident. Benefiting from Citroën's extensive knowledge of racing dynamics, a carbon-finished air diffuser stabilises the car at high speeds, whilst the chassis and suspension have been adapted to provide even more precision, control, sportier handling and swifter cornering.

Based on the existing DSport powered by the THP 150, production Citroën DS3 Racing editions will be finished in a special workshop and fitted with a parts kit developed according to Citroën Racing specifications.

CITROËN DS HIGH RIDER CONCEPT: DYNAMIC, COMPACT AND EXCLUSIVE

Citroen DS Hight Rider Concept First Photos

Citroën has released first details of a striking new concept design that will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show. DS HIGH RIDER is the second concept associated with Citroën's innovative and distinctively styled DS line.

Without denying the appeal of conventional coupés, DS HIGH RIDER represents a bold and radical vision of the future, combining compact dimensions with generous internal volumes, dynamic performance, sophisticated style and consummate quality.

Unlike traditional 4-seater coupés, with their long, low design, the DS HIGH RIDER is compact and muscular.

Citroen DS Hight Rider Concept First Photos

Its character is expressed in its unique driving sensations, with a sleek flowing windscreen that soars over the heads of front occupants - hinting at a bright and spacious cabin environment. The apparently continuous glazed area of the side windows connects the A-pillars to the gently sloping roof line of the rear.

Planted firmly on stylish 19" alloy wheels and beautifully in proportion, DS HIGH RIDER's confident profile is characterised by its high waistline. Its front end is purposeful with gaping air intakes, long incisive headlights and defined ridges along the bonnet.

Citroen DS Hight Rider Concept First Photos

DS HIGH RIDER is an expression of automotive luxury and elegance - exemplified by its glossy golden paintwork and brushed chrome trim that accentuate the car's flowing lines. The roof is covered with a coated textile material - a tactile feature of quality.

Just 4.26m long, 1.82m wide & 1.48m high, DS HIGH RIDER combines a neat and nimble chassis, for responsive handling, with intelligent design architecture that provides occupants with a generous amount of internal space.

Citroen DS Hight Rider Concept First Photos

DS HIGH RIDER's ability to rise above conventional design constraints is also reflected in its choice of power. Offering an enjoyable driving experience with dynamic on-road performance, DS HIGH RIDER is respectful of the environment with an advanced ‘Full Hybrid' diesel drivetrain that combines a refined HDi DPFS* engine under the bonnet with an electric motor located on the rear axle. The hybrid platform enables DS HIGH RIDER to combine the fuel efficiency and power of an HDi diesel engine with the ecological benefits of a new generation electric ZEV (Zero Emission Vehicle). Under certain conditions, both engines combine to deliver additional power with additional torque transmitted to the rear wheels.

CITROËN C-ZERO: THE NEW 100% ELECTRIC CITY CAR

Zero fuel consumption, zero CO2 emissions and zero engine noise: with the C-ZERO, CITROËN is broadening its compact vehicle range with a 100% electric offering.

The new city car is designed to make urban mobility easier - thanks to its compact dimensions, rapid charge and generous range for day-to-day car journeys. And all of this in a silence that makes occupants forget about the noise of the city. The C-ZERO combines technology and creativity to meet tomorrow's challenges today.

Having already produced more than 5,500 electric vehicles, CITROËN has the experience vital to being a front-runner in a market segment that is set to grow significantly in the coming years.

Due for launch in the last quarter of 2010, the C-ZERO is developed in collaboration with Mitsubishi Motors Corporation.

A NEW PRODUCT OFFERING CONSISTENT WITH CITROËN POLICY

Long committed to a policy of reducing fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, CITROËN - a leading manufacturer of low CO2 cars - is adding the C-ZERO to a range that already features a wealth of environmentally respectful products.

    Current CITROËN achievements:

    * New C3 and DS3 models emitting 99g/km of CO2 will be available from launch in 2010.
    * More than 30% of CITROËN vehicles sold emit less than 120g/km of CO2.

    Up-coming technologies:

    * Widespread application of second-generation Stop & Start in 2010.
    * Launch of a full-hybrid vehicle, the DS5, in 2011.

    A 100% ELECTRIC VEHICLE

The CITROËN C-ZERO is a full-electric vehicle powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor delivering 47kW or 64bhp EEC from 3,000 to 6,000rpm. Maximum torque of 180Nm is available from 0 to 2,000rpm. Power is transmitted to the rear axle via a single-speed reduction gear.

The motor is powered by a latest-generation 330-volt lithium-ion battery system comprising 88 50Ah cells (for onboard energy of 16kWh), mounted in the centre of the vehicle. Lithium-ion technology keeps battery weight down compared with conventional technology, while offering equivalent performance. It is also resistant to partial re-charges, which have no impact on battery longevity.

EASY TO CHARGE, EASY TO USE

Re-charging the C-ZERO's batteries could not be simpler. Owners plug the supply cord into a 220-volt socket. A complete charge takes six hours, while an 80% charge is possible in just 30 minutes using an external station with a single-phase current of 125A at 400V, for power of up to 50kW.

Using the car is equally simple. When the driver turns the ignition key, a beep confirms that the car is running. CITROËN C-ZERO drives like a regular car with an automatic gearbox. The traditional fuel gauge is replaced by a battery charge indicator.

PERFORMANCE & FEATURES FOR TODAY'S NEEDS

The CITROËN C-ZERO is perfectly adapted to the needs of all kinds of users - including public sector operators, local authorities, smaller businesses and company fleets - and also to those of private customers looking for a car with exceptionally low running costs.

With four real seats - thanks to a 2.55m wheelbase - and a 166 litre boot, the C-ZERO is impressively quiet to drive and boasts a plethora of comfort and safety equipment. Original-fit features include power steering, ABS, traction control, ESP, electric windows, six airbags and air conditioning.

A CITY CAR AT EASE ON THE OPEN ROAD

The C-ZERO's compact exterior dimensions - 3.48m long - and a 9m turning circle, make it a cinch to nip in and out of city traffic. And with a top speed of 130kph (80mph), acceleration from 0-100kph (0-62mph) in 15 seconds and 60-90kph (37-56mph) in 6 seconds, along with a range of around 130km (80miles), over a standard combined cycle, it is also fully at ease out on the open road.

From 10th November, via www.c-zero.citroen.com, prospective customers who are interested in being one of the first to own a CITROËN C-ZERO, will be able to request an exclusive test-drive prior to placing a pre-order.

Frankfurt 2009: 2010 Citroen C3

    2010 Citroen C3

It's really a shame we can't buy Citroens in America anymore. Main reason is the awesome C6. Second reason is that all the small Citroens we poked our heads into at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show had sticks. By comparison, more than half the VWs were slushers. Moving on – check out this cute little guy! It's the new C3, complete with its "Zenith Windshield." As you may have noticed, the front piece of glass goes all the way to eleven. We like this, because as time moves on, safety concerns and styling trends are forcing more and more glass out of the cabin. It's getting so bad that you can't hardly see out of the new Chevy Camaro. Not so in this here Citroen C3. Forward visibility for the win. And the view from outside the car ain't so bad either. High style, low price – what's not to like?

    PRESS RELEASE

A TOUCH OF GLASS: CITROËN INTRODUCES THE NEW C3

Citroën has released first details of the new C3, a completely redesigned successor to the popular C3 supermini – a bestseller with over 2 million units delivered worldwide.

Arriving in the UK early in 2010, the new C3 boasts contemporary lines and seductive styling, compact exterior dimensions – cleverly matched to exceptional interior space – good environmental credentials and a refined, high quality interior – as well as offering a unique and innovative windscreen design.

On the outside, new C3 gets a sportier edge, with a tauter profile that gives the car a more dynamic, yet robust appearance. Nowhere is the modern styling more apparent than in the design of the new C3's unique Zenith windscreen, which flows dramatically up and over the heads of the front occupants. Coupled with slim side pillars, the huge progressively tinted windscreen offers a truly panoramic field of vision – along with optimum overhead sun protection.

'Visiodrive' – the word created to best describe the new Citroën C3 – is born out of this unique windscreen, which is yet another example of Citroën's use of 'Creative Technologie'. The screen helps to create a bright and pleasurable cabin environment for driver and passengers alike – improving visibility, road safety, driving pleasure, ambience and the overall feeling of spaciousness.

Inside the cabin, attention to detail and the use of high quality materials, delivers an air of refinement and class, which is complemented by enhanced sound insulation and a pleasant fragrance from the car's integrated air freshener.

Despite its added sophistication, increased comfort and interior space, the new C3 remains one of the most compact vehicles in its segment – and avoids any increase in weight over the current model. At just 3.94m long and 1.71m wide, it offers a generous 300 litres of boot space, along with numerous storage areas throughout the cabin. Occupants also benefit from a feeling of comfort and roominess with a slightly raised seating position for ease of access and improved visibility.

The new C3 is at ease in the city, with its compact dimensions and 10.2m turning circle, as well as on the open road, thanks to its enhanced dynamics. The careful control of weight, combined with optimised aerodynamics (Cd of 0.30), allows the new C3 to achieve excellent fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

From launch, an HDi 90 powered version will be available emitting just 99g/km CO2 – the first full production Citroën to emit less than 100g/km. Whilst the arrival of new power plants from 2011, incorporating second-generation Stop & Start technology, will see diesel versions emitting as little as 90g/km CO2, to be followed by new generation three-cylinder petrol engines with less than 100g/km CO2.

Modern and perfectly at home in the 21st century, the new C3 can be well connected with USB, iPod and Bluetooth® functionality, as well as offering Citroën's 'MyWay' satellite navigation and Hifi System®. Source URL: https://automotivetrendnews.blogspot.com/search/label/Citroen

Frankfurt 2009: 2010 Citroen DS3

    2010 Citroen DS3

Seriously Citroen, what is up? We're all for premium small cars (think Mini Cooper, Audi A3) and pray nightly that more will start coming to our shores. But calling this C3-based hatchback a DS? For reals? Look, any new Citroen DS has some mighty big Louboutins to fill. Like, huge. And, well, come on now – who you fooling? Frankfurt 2009: Citroen REVOLTe

    Citroen REVOLTe

Between storming the Bastille and a national rejection of the Venus razor, the French certainly know the meaning of the word "revolt". Interesting, then, that Citroen knowingly used the word – albeit Francofied with a superfluous E for its hybrid electric drivetrain – for its latest concept car.

The REVOLTe concept is a throwback to the 2CV of yore, which celebrated its 60th anniversary last year. But while the Tata Nano might carry the flame of the bare-bones four-wheeled transport today, the REVOLTe simply borrows the basic shape of its forbearer and gives it a modern twist. That bit comes courtesy of an unspecified "small-capacity conventional combustion engine combined with an electric motor and a battery re-charging function." Measuring just twelve feet long, the REVOLTe seats three – one offset up front and two in the back – accessed by suicide doors.

    PRESS RELEASE:

REVOLTE: Luxury, ecology and a touch of cheek!

Citroën is once more proving its credentials as a bold forward-looking brand with the concept car REVOLTE, an ultra-chic city car combining luxury with a touch of cheek.

A compact city car, REVOLTE sidesteps the difficulties of dense urban traffic with a totally new approach to small car design. This bold, chic car opts for luxury with a touch of cheek, technology and glamour, power and verve.
With its iridescent, glossy colours, silky smooth textiles, and subtle, sophisticated materials, REVOLTE places passengers in a feminine, cosmetic setting, of bold and elegant design.
Spirited and lively, REVOLTE also has an eye on the future with its rechargeable hybrid drivetrain. This ecologically sound technology makes maximum use of electric mode and also contributes to the concept car's agility.
Gloom, conformism and dullness are just not in REVOLTE's vocabulary. Its personality and qualities lend colour to the city and to the world of luxury.

More broadly, REVOLTE reflects a concern with topical issues. Increasing urbanisation, new means of communication and the growing variety of mobility solutions show that we can expect the use of small cars to develop considerably. Mirroring changing social trends and lifestyles, small cars are taking on a new status and expanding their scope of action. Whether as economical cars, second cars, liaison vehicles or fashion accessories, small cars are attention-pullers that dare to be different. They offer particularly fertile ground for progress in automotive technology.
Citroën has long been a key player in the segment of small cars and has made them a preferred medium of expression. The latest events at the Marque are once more turning the spotlight on the small-car segment, with the launches of the new C3 and DS3.

    REVOLTE, superbly transgressive, clearly distinctive

With its forceful lines and compact dimensions, REVOLTE could simply content itself with being a conventional small urban vehicle. Living up to its name, however, REVOLTE has set its sights higher. This concept car takes a highly contemporary approach. It shares some of the characteristics of executive vehicles but, at the same time, it transgresses the codes of the luxury world as we know them to include references that are far removed from those usually associated with cars.

Far more than just a small, functional vehicle, REVOLTE is a high-spirited performer. Its character is illustrated by its size (3.68 m long, 1.73 m wide and 1.35 m tall), and also by its bodywork which shuns the strict, austere codes of conventional luxury to drape itself in an intense and radiant shade of violent.
A low-set vehicle sitting squarely on its four wheels, REVOLTE makes light work of urban driving. An impression confirmed by its proportions.
With its strongly marked wheel arches, curving bonnet, and sculpted sides matching the line of the roof, REVOLTE is sleekly muscled and ready to pounce.

The rear-hinged doors provide easy access to the cabin, revealing a multicoloured interior that resembles a box of make-up. This unusual idea of associating bright colours with luxury styling reflects Citroën's bold creativity. Like the Hypnos concept car before it, REVOLTE reflects efforts to modernise the traditional notions of luxury.
The main materials featured in the cabin are: woven black leather, thick crimson velvet and gleaming aluminium. Out go conventional materials such as wood, and conventional colours. The onboard ambience of REVOLTE aims for a bold but luxurious feel.

REVOLTE also dares a three-seater cabin design, designed to resemble a lounge with seats similar to those found in home furnishings.
The passenger area includes a meridian sofa of contemporary design whose flowing lines cover the entire rear area of REVOLTE as well as the space usually reserved for the front passenger. The passenger sitting in this last space can stretch out his or her legs and enjoy the sensations offered by the cosy, luxurious ambience.
It is also possible to install a rearward-facing childseat.
REVOLTE thus boasts an architecture never before seen on this type of vehicle, with original and distinctive forms.
    REVOLTE: intelligent technology in action

REVOLTE's approach to innovation reflects its standpoint on luxury. The two are clearly indissociable. It is difficult to see whether the luxury of the vehicle inspired its high-tech content or if the technology is a medium for the luxurious design. REVOLTE immediately subjugates onlookers. Inside, technology and luxury form an ideal match, as illustrated by the following:

    - the tactile screen of REVOLTE is encased in a crystal beam. The superbly crafted deep red crystals literally project the tactile screen into the cabin for an eloquent and original effect. This is not their only function, since they also serve to recycle air on board REVOLTE, like a respiratory system;

    - chic and elegant, the rear bench of REVOLTE is not only a brilliant demonstration of style. It also houses the concept car's electric batteries. This clever stowage solution improves the look of the cabin as a whole;

    - on the outside, the bonnet of the car is covered in photovoltaic cells carrying out the electric functions linked to onboard comfort, including when the vehicle is stationary. This makes it unnecessary to use the resources of the electric batteries;

    - at the front of REVOLTE, the observer's eye is drawn to a curved glass shape underlining the generous lines of the grille. The backlit translucent bottom of the glass brings out the chevrons to original effect, subtly identifying the concept car as a Citroën vehicle.

The powertrain of REVOLTE also shares the concept car philosophy, in terms of technology, sophistication and ecology.

    REVOLTE, a modern activist

The powertrain of REVOLTE shatters the view traditionally associating "small" with "basic". The contemporary, sophisticated character of REVOLTE is also reflected in its powertrain, which has the future clearly in its sights.
Striking a distinctive note in the automotive industry's ongoing quest for "all-electric" solutions, REVOLTE features a solution that is both exciting and credible: a rechargeable hybrid drivetrain.

The characteristics and features of the drivetrain are as follows:
    - a small-capacity conventional combustion engine combined with an electric motor, both able to drive the wheels;
    - the ability to run in all-electric ZEV (Zero Emission Vehicle) mode, i.e. without emissions;
    - a battery recharging function that supplies the electric motor.

This rechargeable hybrid drivetrain places the emphasis on "all-electric" running. As well as producing no CO2 emissions, this mode delivers a quiet ride with a high level of driving comfort.

Even with this drive system, REVOLTE is not about to give in to boredom and indolence. Although we need not go into detail about its high top speed, this concept car is a lively performer with strong acceleration. REVOLTE respects the ecological constraints of urban driving in every way while also delivering an agile and spirited ride.

REVOLTE turns conventions on their head!

Citroën decided to take a bold approach to revolutionising the conventional image of small cars. The modern character of REVOLTE is therefore expressed through provocative styling inspired by one of its most illustrious ancestors: the 2CV. What car better embodies the small vehicle concept than that motoring icon, the 2CV?
Adopting a heretic stance, REVOLTE reviews all the codes of the 2CV, systematically transforming all the values that made the 2CV the myth it remains today.

    the 2CV was plain and neutral, REVOLTE is luxurious and colourful;
    the 2CV was basic and simple, REVOLTE is intelligent and high-tech;
the 2CV was slow and bouncy, REVOLTE is lively and spirited.

In this way, REVOLTE expresses the creativity and dynamic vitality of Citroën, a brand in touch with its past but continuously in search of progress.
Citroën is currently celebrating 90 years of automotive success, technology and innovation that will serve as sources of study and inspiration for the decades to come.

Frankfurt preview: Citroen Revolte Concept

Citroen is now increasingly looking like it will bring back the 2CV badge after these concept pictures were leaked. The original 2CV came into being in 1949 as a compact, economy car. Previous concept shots of this car, whose name is now officially revealed as the Revolte Concept, appeared on Facebook under the name Nouveau C3 and were later released as official teasers. Speculation began around what exactly it would be and eventually the 2CV was named as a strong possibility.

The rear window is integrated with the roof and the two blend like one piece of two-tone sheet metal. Tailpipes are not visible but where they would normally be are two air dams separated by what seems like an air diffuser. The interior is very sculptured and futuristic with seats that look like they were plucked out of a Klingon space ship. The front passenger seat actually faces backwards.

The concept looks like a premium sporting hatch which could share some underpinnings with the Citroën DS3. Its front end features the company's updated grille, small headlights and a honeycomb lower face. As previously speculated there are four doors but the rear set are the rearward opening suicide types. When wide open or completely closed they reveal a flat C-like shape which is appropriate for the car. We don't know what size wheels are fitted yet but the tyres have the name Michelin on them.

Citroën will surely unveil the Revolte at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week and hopefully share some more details about it.

BMW considers sharing Mini platform with PSA Peugeot Citroën

    Mini 50 Mayfair

According to a report from Financial Times in the U.K., BMW may be in preliminary talks to share small car platforms for future Mini variants with PSA Peugeot Citroën. The two European automakers already share the range of small four-cylinder engines powering the Mini line, which seems to lend an air of credence to rumors of an expanded collaborative effort.

While stopping short of confirming the report, both BMW chief Norbert Reithofer and PSA head Philippe Varin have indicated a willingness to work together and have reportedly met twice so far since May. Whispers of platform sharing is nothing new for BMW these days – earlier this year, we again heard the oft-repeated rumor that BMW was working with Fiat on a shared platform for something even smaller than the regular-grade Mini, possibly as part of its long-rumored Isetta revival.

GTbyCITROEN supercar concept video driving in London

A new promotional video was released last week showing the GTbyCITROEN concept cruising around the streets of London. You may recall that Citroen executive Vincent Besson told members of the media attending the Geneva Motor Show that the car will be produced in a limited edition of no more than 20 units.

In this video, we see the proposed supercar just as much as we see stupified onlookers. Needless to say, you do not often get the chance to see a production version of a car specifically designed for a videogame. Takumi Yamamoto, of Style Citroen, created the 4.96 meter long exterior of the car while working with his friend, Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi. The car will be featured in Gran Turismo 5, a videogame that may be released for the Sony Playstation this winter.

We would not be surprised to see Ford win the bid for these engines, as PSA Peugeot Citroen already has a cooperative agreement on four different sets of common rail diesel engines. Using Ford engines could keep relations positive between the two companies.

Those details have changed a bit since March. Autocar is reporting that Besson officially gave the car a greenlight. Production will initially be limited to just six, with an expected retail price in the £1.1 million range. Expect the car to keep it's carbon fiber body and less-than-common interior. While we don't mind the copper trim, we get much more excited about the driver-side switches, and the F1-inspired steering wheel. Expect the car to recieve a 500+ horsepower V8 engine provided by an American automaker.

Instead of looking for the car virtually, you can check out the actual GTbyCITROEN at Goodwood from July 3rd to the 5th. The current version of the car will attempt the 1.16 mile-long Goodwood Hill six times during the weekend. Meanwhile, the first look at the final production model will take place at September's Frankfurt Motor Show.
